About LNEG
Under the motto “Building a cleaner future”, the mission of the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG) is to promote and carry out research, demonstration and knowledge transfer, technical and technological assistance, and laboratory support for companies in the fields of Energy and Geology. Supported by 238 staff members, including 101 in the Scientific Research career and a highly qualified workforce, LNEG develops applied research with strong public-policy and industry impact. In 2024, it was involved in 76 funded national and international projects, produced 923 technical and scientific reports/opinions, and published 84 scientific articles, including 78 peer-reviewed papers, around 90% of which were indexed in Web of Science. Its scientific impact is reflected in an institutional h-index of 98, reinforcing LNEG’s role in transforming knowledge into innovation, decision support and sustainable development.
About NOVA FCT
The NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT), founded in 1977, is one of Portugal’s leading schools of Science, Engineering and Technology, recognised for excellence in teaching, research and innovation. Located on the Caparica Campus, it hosts around 8,500 students, over 500 academic staff and researchers, and 18 FCT-funded research units, with annual R&D exceeding €20 million. With strong industry links and a dynamic innovation ecosystem, it promotes interdisciplinary education combining scientific rigour, transferable skills and entrepreneurship. Its internationally recognised research spans areas such as sustainability, energy, materials, biotechnology and AI, reflected in achievements including 22 ERC grants and over 1,300 annual publications in top journals.
